Regional school information

  • South East

    Six wholesalers operate across the South East, so two schools in the same trust can sit under different leakage allowance rules

  • London

    None. Every open school in London sits in an urban classification, so every supply is a mains connection on a constrained site

  • East of England

    The region covers its schools with just eleven local authorities, the fewest of any English region relative to its size

  • South West

    The South West has the largest number of rural-classified schools of any English region, so long buried private supply runs are the regional norm rather than the exception

  • West Midlands

    SCOLA, the Second Consortium of Local Authorities, operated across this region, and its light steel-framed buildings still make up a substantial part of the secondary stock

  • North West

    One. United Utilities wholesales to the entire region, which makes it the simplest English region in which to run a trust-wide water strategy

  • Yorkshire and the Humber

    The region is split between soft upland supplies from the Pennine catchments and hard groundwater from the Yorkshire Wolds, so failure modes differ across a single trust

  • East Midlands

    Nottinghamshire County Council developed CLASP in 1957 specifically to build schools that could tolerate mining subsidence, and the region holds a large share of the resulting stock

  • North East

    The smallest English region by open school count, which makes a trust-wide consumption comparison across the whole region genuinely practical

  • Scotland

    Scotland opened its non-household water retail market in 2008, so Scottish schools have been able to choose a licensed provider for longer than schools in England

  • Wales

    No academy trusts exist in Wales, so condition works are planned through twenty-two local authorities rather than through trust estates teams

  • Northern Ireland

    There is no competitive non-household water market in Northern Ireland, so there is no retailer to switch to and no market-wide leakage allowance scheme of the England and Wales kind
